You may be skeptical that homemade deodorant may not be as effective as the store-bought varieties. However, this combination of natural ingredients works great and odds are that you have everything needed to make this recipe today. It’s a simple and effective recipe. I hope you like using this deodorant!
You only need a few ingredients to make this deodorant: coconut oil, baking soda, cornstarch and your choice of essential oils.
While deodorant helps combat body odor, antiperspirants actually prevent sweat by blocking the ducts that release it. Ingredients in most antiperspirants, like aluminum, artificial fragrances, and triclosan (a preservative that helps keep bacteria from growing in cosmetics), can irritate some people’s skin . While the following recipe does not promise to stop sweat, it does work to stave off body odor — and that’s what deod is all about, are we right?
1/2 cup coconut oil
1/4 cup corn starch (or arrowroot powder for sensitive skin)
1/4 cup baking soda
1/8 -1/4 teaspoon essential oil (We like lavender and lemongrass, but feel free to choose your favorite)
What to Do:
1. If the coconut oil is in a solid state, put some in a microwave-safe container and pop it in the microwave for 10-second intervals (until it melts fully).
2. Mix in essential oil.
3. Add cornstarch and baking soda and mix until smooth.
4. Transfer to a jar and apply with your hands or an empty deodorant tube for mess free application.
Note: It may be best to refrigerate your deodorant since coconut oil has a low melting point.
Have you tried making your own deodorant before? If so, what concoction did you use?
